The new craze among true instagramers is called selfeet, and literally means taking a selfie of your feet – a contraction of the worlds selfie and feet. The “aesthetic” rules for a perfect selfeet are pretty strict: they must be square-shaped, taken from above, contain a strong contrast of colours, with feet placed parallel or wearing your favourite brand of shoes. The most important thing, however, is to use a beautiful floor as a background, which immediately reflects our state of mind or what we are doing at that precise moment.

The real philosophy behind selfeet appears to be that of “when feet meet nice floors” which, not by coincidence, is the claim of the most widely followed Instagram account on the subject, namely @ihavethisthingwithfloors. The Dutch creators of the account have over 845 thousand followers, more than 1,500 posts and a precise digital strategy: in just a short space of time, they have managed to produce snapshots of hundreds of cities, both in Europe and beyond, starting from their most original floors, by asking their followers to take selfeets from every new place and share it with the specific hashtag so that they can be reposted.
