A Dialogue Between Italian Creativity and Japanese Sensitivity
From 13 April to 13 October, Expo Osaka 2025 will welcome visitors from around the globe, providing a unique platform for cultural exchange, innovation, and design. With over 160 countries participating and an expected attendance of 30 million people, the Osaka World Expo promises to be an extraordinary event—one where the dialogue between tradition and the future opens up new creative horizons.
Centred on the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, Expo 2025 is an invitation to rethink the relationship between humanity, the environment, and technology. In this context, design and architecture take on a central role, shaping spaces that are not only functional but also rich with meaning and emotional resonance. Coem will participate under the theme “WE REMIXED ITALIAN CREATIVITY”, bringing the charm of its ceramic surfaces to the Italy Pavilion, where tradition and innovation come together in perfect harmony.
Expo Osaka 2025 is more than a global showcase—it is a unique opportunity to strengthen the dialogue between Made In Italy and Japanese aesthetic sensibility. Coem’s design approach fits seamlessly into this context. The pursuit of harmony with nature, attention to detail, and a balanced relationship between material and space reflect the essence of Japanese design.
Italy and Japan share a deep appreciation for beauty, craftsmanship, and the use of sustainable materials. In Japanese culture, the wabi-sabi aesthetic embraces imperfection, simplicity, and the authenticity of surfaces. In a similar spirit, Coem’s ceramics are the result of meticulous research into natural materials, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens to create elegant and harmonious spaces. This meeting of Japanese design philosophy and Italian expertise gives rise to a timeless aesthetic that transcends trends and speaks a universal language.

TDesigned by Mario Cucinella Architects, the Italy Pavilion reinterprets the concept of the ideal Renaissance city through the use of innovative materials and a contemporary architectural language. The theme “Art Regenerates Life” celebrates Italy’s unique ability to transform raw materials into artistic and functional expressions.
The Auditorium’s flooring features 75×150 cm tiles from Coem Remixed collection in the Ivory colour. Unveiled at Cersaie 2024, this collection is inspired by natural materials, reinterpreted with mastery and creativity. The Ivory shade, with its subtle nuances and soft texture, evokes the simplicity of Japanese surfaces, fostering a refined dialogue between two cultures.

At Expo Osaka, Coem presents a vision of ceramics that blends Italian expertise with a design philosophy closely aligned with Japanese principles: minimalism, harmony, materiality, and sustainability. Its ceramic surfaces are produced through a production process that reduces waste and promotes the reuse of raw materials—values that strongly echo Japan’s respect for the balance between humanity and nature.
Coem’s participation in Expo Osaka 2025 is an opportunity to exchange ideas and draw inspiration—a meeting point where Italian design engages with new perspectives. The claim “WE REMIXED ITALIAN CREATIVITY” reflects an open and evolving approach, one that embraces dialogue with different cultures.
Expo Osaka 2025 offers a unique opportunity to showcase how Italian design naturally harmonises with Japanese culture. Through its participation, Coem celebrates the value of materials, the power of creativity, and the fusion of distant traditions, coming together in a space of timeless beauty.
