Bologna, dedication to innovation and design

A September full of innovation thanks to Cersaie and the Bologna Design Week

The new edition of the Bologna Design Week takes place from the 25th to the 29th of September and reconfirms the partnership and very close collaboration with Cersaie, which will be held in the Exhibition Centre from 24th to 28th September 2018. During this period Bologna will become a real platform for communication on cultural themes developed around everything concerning the importance of design. There will be many exhibitions, installations and workshops as well as events in the historic buildings, ex-churches, showrooms and art galleries hosting the creations of young talents and performance artists inspired by architecture and interior design. Creativity, innovation, experimentation: Bologna Design Week is an event for discovering the latest in design and for promoting culture. It is certainly an event that puts the manufacturing excellence of Italian industries into the spotlight and allows the wider public to appreciate the originality of products and their materials, the craftsmanship and the know-how typical of Made in Italy.

What are the not-to-be-missed appointments of the Bologna Design Week?

The programme is a work in progress, but some details have already been planned, such as the appointment on the 26th of September of the Design Night, that will involve art galleries, shops and bars up until midnight. The city will thrive on a plethora of events and vernissages, which will change the perception of the town’s historic centre. A must is a visit to the exhibition on the works of architect Kazuhide Takahama, curated by MAMbo in the evocative pavilion of the Esprit Nouveau in Piazza della Costituzione. But maybe more popular and certainly fascinating, is the short films festival dedicated to design and creativity from the Cineteca di Bologna. Timeless images for works of art and architecture.

There are three principal event locations to know about

Headquarters and info point, once again this year is in the Palazzo Isolani, that will host within its halls from the 1700s a selection of historic design companies with original installations, while in the outer courtyard the lounge bar will be looked after by the Bologna Cocktail Week team. Other pinpoint locations along the route are the ex-church of Santa Maria della Neve, headquarters of Insidesign Studiostore and the spaces of the Galleria Cavour, historic point of encounter between fashion and art.

Bologna with a touch of delicious indulgence

In Bologna, design can also be appreciated while taking a short break in a patisserie. During the Design Week we recommend a visit to either of the two Bar Pasticceria Impero in the heart of Bologna (Via Indipendenza and Via Caprarie). Savour, apart from the pastries, the interior design and wall coverings; a project overseen in all details by the designers Lara Galanti (Architect) and Giovanna Lanza of the Studio To.do in Milan, that puts centre stage CEMENTINE_20 tiles in the Mix version, Cementina_4 and Cementina_5 by Ceramica Fioranese. A touch of vintage that is always up to date for your pause dedicated to design and indulgence.
