How to create a comfortable, functional home office

A few suggestions for smart, stylish working

During this period, with so many of us spending so much time at home, it’s important to reorganise our living spaces for efficient remote working. We need to set aside a dedicated area where we can work in peace, so we have four practical ideas to help you create a comfortable, functional home workspace. It doesn’t matter if we don’t have a spare room to set up as a study: all it takes is a bit of organisation to easily create our own little home office.

Make the most of every corner!

However limited the space at our disposal is, all you need is a little creativity to set up a comfortable mini-office at home. The secret is to make the most of the space we have. For example, in a recess, we can install a work surface – perhaps one that can be folded up when not in use, and a few wall shelves, or we might be able to use a part of our closet to create a little home office to be used as necessary. Here’s a useful example; thanks to the Lagos collection, a stone-effect solution with more or less visible veining effects on the surface, even a recess in the wall can take on extra character and bring a touch of class to the setting.

The real secret? The addition of a design element

However small your home working space might be, you can add a touch of distinction with a designer item. This solution will add character to the setting and make the time spent at your desk more pleasant. Choose a painting, or a distinctive chair: there are all sorts of design elements that can be used to turn even the simplest of tables into a stylish home office. The important thing is to combine the elements effectively, with the most suitable finishes: the delicate shades of the Signum collection will offset your furnishings beautifully, as shown here, while the distinctive effects created by the Terrazzo collection are ideal for bringing a touch of elegance and sophistication, as you can see in this picture

Pay attention to artificial light!

Our home office should also be adequately equipped in terms of natural – and especially artificial – light. Ideally, we should have a desk lamp – maybe a designer piece such as the Tolomeo by Artemide, with an extendable arm so the light can be directed to where it’s required. Our advice is to choose a lamp fitted with a dimmer to adjust the intensity of light up and down as required, to save energy. Here’s an excellent example! The Moon_Stone collection, which takes its inspiration from Brazilian quartzite, brings a bright, elegant allure to any setting, make it a pleasure to work in! Or if you prefer a more intimate atmosphere that helps you concentrate better, the I Sassi collection, with its soft, natural surface, allows you to create a beautifully sophisticated ambience, as you can see here

the pool steals the show

Your own sitting room can be the ideal place to work: being surrounded by your belongings can bring out your best ideas, and reading and studying can be extremely pleasant ways to pass the time, if you have the option to do so seated on the sofa or at the table. Sometimes it can even be more relaxing than working at the office, if we’ve chosen warm, inviting finishes for our home, such as those on the Dualmood collection, which places the accent on the material stone effect, able to shape a simply unique atmosphere, as you can see in this photo. If you prefer a wood effect, the Lignea, Afromosia and Reverso2 collections will bring a warm, inviting touch to your living spaces, while maintaining all the characteristics of porcelain stoneware that make them easy to clean and preserve, so you can work from home with maximum safety and hygiene.
